Guzalia Davis, Founder, International Hypnosis School (more...)

You have the hypnosis training. Nicotine is where it gets tested.
Cessation is one of the most complex things you will do in hypnotherapy. You are working with a chemical dependence, years of ritual and association, emotional regulation, identity, and a client who has already failed many times. Smoking, vaping, nicotine pouches, and smokeless tobacco each require a different approach. A script doesn't address that. Mastery does. C.L.E.A.N.™ gives trained hypnotherapists a structured method for doing exactly that.
What is C.L.E.A.N.™?
C.L.E.A.N™ is an acronym guiding your recovery journey:
C – Clarify Triggers: Map the subconscious patterns, emotional anchors, and environmental cues driving the client's nicotine habit.
L – Learn New Routines: Guide clients to replace automatic rituals with healthy, subconscious alternatives.
E – Empower the Mind: Utilize targeted hypnosis and mental reframing for permanent identity shifts.
A – Align the Environment: Help clients restructure their daily spaces to eliminate subconscious friction and temptation.
N – Normalize Tobacco-Free Living: Anchor the client's identity so being non-nicotine becomes their effortless "new normal."
What Makes C.L.E.A.N.™ Training Different?
You will learn the principles behind the work, observe them in real sessions, experience the methods yourself, and practice applying them until the skills become natural and automatic in conversation and client sessions.
Theory → Observe → Experience → Practice → Rewire
You won't simply watch demonstrations and download scripts. You'll study the principles behind the method, observe real application, experience the techniques yourself, and practice recognizing and responding to patterns. The objective is procedural competence: knowing what you're seeing, knowing why you're intervening, and being able to adapt your response rather than reaching for the next script.
The goal is to make you capable of thinking and responding as a nicotine-recovery practitioner.
What You Will Learn:
The training covers:
Nicotine-use patterns, readiness, scope of practice, ethics, safeguards, and referral considerations.
Screening, intake, client profiling, and case planning.
Choosing between an intensive session structure and a gradual approach.
Smoking applications: cigarettes, cigars, and pipes.
Vaping and nicotine-pouch applications.
Smokeless tobacco applications: dip, chew, and snus.
Conversational hypnosis, parts work, identity work, regulation techniques, and appropriate use of regression.
Follow-up, lapses, dual use, troubleshooting, and complex case considerations.
Adapting delivery for in-person and online work.
Lessons include session walk-throughs, and demonstrations, alongside practical exercises and written resources.

Why Tobacco Recovery Is the Highest-Demand Specialty in Hypnotherapy
The Problem Is Enormous, and So Is the Need for Specialists
Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. The CDC attributes roughly 480,000 deaths a year to it, and the World Health Organization puts the global toll at over 8 million lives annually. Smoking-related illness also costs the U.S. more than $600 billion a year in healthcare spending and lost productivity.
The demand for help is just as striking. Surveys consistently show that most adult smokers say they want to quit, and roughly half make a serious attempt each year. Yet only a small fraction succeed on any given attempt, especially without structured support. Many people try willpower, patches, gum, or apps several times over, and many come back to a private practitioner as a next step.
That gap between wanting to quit and being able to quit is where a well-trained hypnotherapist can help.
Beyond Cigarettes: Three Markets
Our clients now arrive in three distinct groups:
Combustible smokers, who often bring decades of ritual, stress association, and identity into the room.
Vapers and nicotine pouch users, a fast-growing group that includes young adults who have never smoked and have nowhere obvious to turn. Vaping is often unstructured, with constant low-level use throughout the day.
Smokeless tobacco users (chew, dip, snus), an underserved population concentrated in rural communities, trades, the military, and athletics. These clients rarely get specialized help, and their oral and sensory habits need different techniques than smoking does.
A practitioner who can serve all three is not competing for a shrinking pool. They are positioned across the whole nicotine landscape. The C.L.E.A.N. Tobacco Recovery™ Practitioner Certification is built around exactly this range.
Why Hypnotherapists Are Well Placed to Lead
Nicotine dependence is both physical and behavioral. The chemical pull is only part of it. The rest is a dense web of triggers, routines, emotional regulation, sensory rewards, and identity ("I'm a smoker," "this is how I unwind"). Hypnotherapy works with habit, association, imagery, and self-perception, which is why so many people seek it out after other methods have not held.
Clinical research on hypnosis for smoking cessation is mixed, and quality varies from study to study. A defined framework covering screening, intake, intervention, and relapse prevention lets practitioners deliver consistent work, track their results, and describe what they do credibly. That is the purpose of the C.L.E.A.N.™ framework.
Recurring Demand, Multiple Revenue Channels
Tobacco cessation is one of the few hypnotherapy specialties where demand is constant, easy to explain, and easy to market. People do not need to be educated about why quitting matters. Specialization also supports sustainable pricing, because a client seeking a specialist expects to invest more than they would with a generalist.
A tobacco recovery practice can draw revenue from several streams:
Private one-on-one sessions, in person or online
Remote practice through Zoom, which removes geographic limits and widens your client base
Group programs for medical clinics, wellness centers, and community organizations
Corporate and workplace programs, since employers absorb the higher healthcare and productivity costs associated with tobacco use and are looking for cessation support
Follow-up and relapse-prevention packages, which extend client relationships and outcomes
Specialists also market more efficiently. "I help people quit smoking, vaping, and dip" is a message that gets remembered and referred, unlike "I do hypnotherapy for lots of things."
The Future of the Field
Several trends point toward growing demand for skilled cessation practitioners:
The nicotine market keeps diversifying. Vapes, pouches, and new delivery formats keep arriving, and each brings clients who need targeted support.
Telehealth is now normal. Clients are comfortable with online sessions, so a specialist can serve people well beyond their local area.
Employers and health organizations want measurable wellness programs. Structured, protocol-based offerings fit that need better than ad hoc services.
Integrative and non-pharmaceutical options are gaining acceptance. Many people want alternatives or additions to medication-only approaches.
Trauma-informed care is becoming the standard. High-use populations often carry stress and trauma histories, and practitioners trained to work with them carefully will stand apart.
